Montage!

I sometime wish that I could make montages for all of my D&D character’s various mishaps. There’d be enough material there to fill at least ten minutes of film. Falling off things, ‘finding’ traps with their faces, fumbling even simple spells, and that one time with the dragon and the scroll of Cone of Cold… Ahh. Good times. Good times.

I hope you guys have been enjoying the D&D storyline!! It’s been making me want to go back and roll up some characters, just for the hell of it.

Also, I just wanted to let all of the Chicago Weregeeks know that I will be there in a few weeks for C2E2. Man, have you guys checked out the lineup for this con? They’ve got so many amazing guests that I can’t even begin to list them all! And SO many webcomics people!! It’s gonna be pretty amazing!!

C2E2 – Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo

Do your very tall characters hit their heads on things or are your DM’s not that evil? Everytime I entered a room with my character I always had to roll and they would deem whether I smacked my head on the doorframe or not.

I hid in a hallway. Crit fail. I put a lampshade on my head….

(the pali that was looking for me also crit failed, so he didn’t notice a seven foot tall stone elf with a lampshade on his head.)

Foxfier – Ok, that’s just hilarious. Clearly, he was just a lamp, right? :P

Steve – I have never had to make a height check, although considering I played a troll in Shadowrun, perhaps I should have!

Alas I shall not be able to go to any cons for a while, till I find them and gather the proper amount of gold to fund my trip…

    One of the occurrences
I had an elven char and we were in a burnt out town and for some reason she failed her perception roll and fell into a hole, which had a big cave underneath, it wasn’t a massive fall, just enough to wind her. But anyway she was/ is a prissy char who loves everything feminie. And the party tossed down a rope and where pulling her up when she failed her dex check and ended up being pulled out of the hole horizontally. It was fine until she realised the hole wasn’t big enough for her to go through horizontal and was yelling out “hello I’m horizontal!” As the party tried to pull her through! Lol

Heh… my usual problem is with acrobatics. My rogue attempts to leap gracefully from a tree, roll to his feet, and bury a dagger in his enemy’s back. Beautifully cinematic, and given his skills, almost impossible to screw up.

And yet it happens almost every time. On the worst occasion, fumbled the jump (caught a foot on a branch), then fumbled again when trying to land without injury. Face-planted the ground, the giant wolf I was attacking took the opportunity to take a bite out of the stunned elf that had landed next to it..

Some players in my old D&D group told me about “The Sumarian Sword Toss”. Basically, a character draws his/her sword too quickly, sword sails out of their grasp, and ends up in the body of a fellow party member. OOPS!!!

Well… My husband GMs a lot, and he has a bad habit of going “well, that’s not totally insane in the story, roll.”

This resulted in one guy getting a nat 20 on his roll to steal a demon goddess’ underwear. (BESM game, and he was an established pantie thief– if he saw them, he tried to steal them, and she did show up 50 ft tall and wearing a dress…..)

My worst in-game fail had nothing to do with dice. A fellow party-member was THIS close to talking his way past the security guards in a space-age game. His story was well crafted. His lines were slick. His answers were perfect! The guard’s final question was ‘… Well, who has the papers?’ …and I tell you I KNEW what my compatriot’s answer was … it was ‘Me’ meaning him. And without even realizing it, I said out loud ‘Me’ meaning … ME.

The Evil and Foul GM used my inadvertant single-siyllable utterance to unleash an entire squadron of building security on my group’s head! (Very few survivors) Even 20+ years later, I am reminded of my mistake, and I am not allowed to even speak in negotiations!

    BEWARE THE SOCIAL-INTERACTION FAIL!!! :)

Most of our failures over the years have been due to Stupidity ™ and not bad luck with dice (why can’t some people take a hint when the words “Are you SURE?” is uttered by the GM / DM?).

Things like using hand grenades in enclosed spaces, try to jump out of a window on the fourth floor, fire at the enemy while in the air and then land in a wagon transporting hay (hint: “splat”), taking a pot shot at the sleeping dragon when everyone has actually passed their “sneak” skill check…

My worst was actually in Classic Battletech. I had two ‘Mechs under my control with a combined total of 70 Long Range Missiles that could fire at once. I launched at a building and only hit with less than 20 of the missiles. My gaming group still gives me crap about that.
