Things you love day!

I wasn’t going to do a Valentine’s Strip at all this year, as I generally hate the holiday with the rage of a thousand suns, but I know too many wonderful geeky people who get down on themselves today just because they happen to be single. This is a tragedy!

I declare that we should forget about the whole stupid “being with someone, anyone” aspect of the holiday, and focus instead on the people and things we love!

Love card games? You don’t really need an excuse to hold a games night, but hey, Valentine’s day makes a convenient excuse! Love video games? I know that *I* plan on spending some quality time with Dragon Age tomorrow night. Have a sweetie who’s just as geeky as you are? There’s nothing quite as romantic (and adorkable) as running a solo dungeon crawl for your S.O. (Layne ran a game for me one year – I was a goblin with a pet wolf and a bone club. It was epic.)

This holiday’s not going anywhere, so let’s make the best of it. Enjoy some time with people that you love, doing the things that you love to do, and just have some fun!

I just wanted to say that not only is this adorable, but thank you for including the male-male couple in the background! Even though they’re just NPCs (as it were), they way they’re holding hands and looking lovingly into each other’s eyes is just so cute – an extra bit of squee in a comic that already made my day. Kudos for being open-minded, and for making something good out of a holiday that makes so many people feed bad : )

Most romantic V-Day I ever had was when my bf and I spent the entire day playing Army of Two on the Xbox. That game is perfect for couples :)

Your post was cute, and your words were very well put. The holiday really isn’t going anywhere, and railing against it isn’t fun. Subverting it for dastardly, nerdly purposes is clearly the most amusing option, and therefore the best one. :)

  4. As a big fan of your strip am glad to see the guy couple in the background of your Valentine strip. Have been hoping for a while for a gay nod for a while now as I am a gay gamer.

Did Mark’s girlfriend always look like blonde glassless Sarah or is this some kind of foreshadowing? ;D

Here! Here! Though I too should probably spend some time with my love for DA:O/A (As I still have yet to finish it), I’ll probably be spending it defending Love and justice on CoH.

Actually, I was wondering what they are playing too… I’m playing Rift beta with my husband for Valentine’s. He bought me the game as a gift, for when it starts….

  12. I’m trying to figure out how Mark, Joel, Dustin, Sarah, and Abbie would look in d20Modern stat-form. If it’s okay with you, I’d like to make the attempt. Also, I’m trying to figure out a weregeek template to add to them.

I’m sure the Thousand Sons chapter hates this holiday too. A little 40k humor :D

Very cute comic today, but I keep wondering when the hell Joel will fall in love with someone. Surely, there is someone as sardonic and games-mad as he is (or so understanding that they’d keep him fed while he spent an entire weekend grinding a bunch of quests in WoW). He cleans up nice in a suit!

the holiday that shall not be named is a plot by the dark forces of Madison avenue to get us to spend 10 times the price for stuff we would never buy to begin with.
