Basilisk

I was going to save this sketch for a Shadowrun story arc, but darnit, she’s cool and I want to show her off.

Basilisk is one of my Shadowrun characters. She started out as teenage gymnast, but was kidnapped on her way home by a pit fighting league who needed a replacement for the “quick, agile fighter” spot on their roster. (You don’t want to know what happened to the last fighter…) As a result, she woke up with nearly a million Nuyen worth of cyberware implanted in her, hence the cybernetic legs, forearms, and balance tail. She’d also had a variety of cosmetic “improvements” made, turning her into a red-skinned lizard creature with the ring name “Basilisk”.

Her introduction to the game saw the rest of the Shadowrun group breaking her free of her captors as a part of their mission, and she decided to tag along and join them on further missions. After all, who can say no to a face like that? :P

That is one cool backtory. Are those usual for SR-characters?

Not always, but those kinds of backgrounds are far more common, after all, life has far less value in the Sixth World.

Depends on your gaming group; some dont bother at all, wheras some write small novels for backstories. This ones about right for me, short, to the point, and descriptive.

very cool charachter though. I havent played SR since 2nd or 3rd edition, and all that hardware looks to have some massive essence loss, I count about 10 (if memory serves on costs) and i’m guessing the rules have changed, because thats 4 past dead ;)

Thanks everyone! Glad you liked it.

Kam – It’s all alphaware, and I think a piece or two of betaware. The pit fighting stable was corporate backed, so they had the best stuff. But, yes, she wasn’t far off dead. I think she had something like 0.5 essence left once all was said and done. : )

Neat pic. Kinda funny I discovered this comic thru shadowrun. Someone posted your shadowrun jinglebell strip in the shadowrun4 forums last christmas. I have been hooked since.

Being busted out of a corp facility (intentionally of not) is a great way to explaining how a fresh-to-the-shadows runner has hundreds of thousands of nuyen worth of ware/gear. It also leads to neat plots in the future if/when the corp finds where their investment got to.

Weeeell… Deus Ex: Human Revolution kinda sounds like this;) Nice work though.

Awesome character there – my current character got her legs blown off in her backstory by the Yakuza and had cyberware replacements. This…. is a lot worse :D . She’d make a good addition to our group, since we seem to adopt strays… lol.

Basilisk had a fan club. Her fans were kinda… fanatical. And a devoted cyberdoc. Devoted.

When my “gang” wanted to start a group (one veteran has a dwarven doc with a platinum level licence and an armed ambulance capable of busting through a front entrance already) and I wanted to devise something like a cyber zombie escaped from a lab they told me it’s not possible because subjects have remote explosives implanted in their brain.
    I feel cheated!

Back in the day (circa 1990) I bypassed Shadow Run in favor of Cyberpunk, I was looking to get away from elves and such since we were playing so much D&D at the time. The closest Ive ever got was one game for the SNES I think.

Reading the comic got me interested in playing it now tho =)

Your Basilisk has a sweet Gamma World snarl to her too. I like it!

    Nice Concept,
It would be nice to play, if I would be able to play on a regular basis at all. But I imagine problems with most of the Game Masters I’ve played with. After all it seems as if we meet the Johnson in a fancy restaurant 90% of the time *gg*

  19. Hobbes Says:

Heh. I love this! For backstory, playing SR 4th ed, I’ve got players who run both ways on backstory – the one with the most backstory is an elven martial artist. He’s managed to build a character who goes 4 times in a round and can roll 20 dice for a melee attack with his fists. It is insane. It is glorious. :D

  20. Hobbes Says:

btw, I think I’d like to borrow the character as an NPC… :D Hope you don’t mind too much!

    @Lord Spammingham:
As a GM, my problem is the opposite – getting players to show up! XP

Your character looks really cool! I can’t help thinking that she’s just one more eye away from looking like a long lost cousin of Sandra from Zebra Girl.

  23. Strudel110 Says:

Ha I see the resemblance to Sandra but it’s vague. Love the concept, oh yeah this is my first post too. Good luck!
