Doing a sketch Wednesday instead of a sketch Friday again this week. For those of you who don’t follow me on Twitter, Monday was a write-off because my computuer died on me, and today I woke up feeling like someone had filled my throat with lava. There’s a few sad, lonely strips on my harddrive that will have to wait until tomorrow, when I can actually sit upright without feeling dizzy, to finally get colored.
Today’s sketch comes to us from last week’s comments section! (Oh, yes, Ted, I dare.
) It was mentioned that ‘rabid hobbit’ was misheard as ‘rabbit hobbit’, and that conjured up this mental image for me. The more I thought about it, the more I knew I had to draw it. I always loved the show ‘The Wind in the Willows”, and I’m a huge Tolkien geek, so it was a natural fit. Enjoy!
I’m going to go fall down now and hope that my voice will be back tomorrow.

Graham Says:
Ha! Awesome. My dad once told me that he thought hobbits were rabbit-like creatures, which I just couldn’t understand.
But apparently, due in large part to “rabbit” being used a few times as a disparaging term against the hobbits, this view was widespread enough that JRR Tolkien had to address it a couple times in his various letters.
The things I learn being married to a Tolkien geek.
(A far greater one than myself, for sure.)
Alex Says:
The one on the left is kind of creepy but the one on the right is adorable.
Adam Says:
Is there a possibility of more animal themed LOTR sketches? It kind of reminds me of that Disney movie Robin Hood, where all of the Robin Hood characters were different animals.
katem Says:
Casting Gandalf as a badger is simply brilliant. It fits so well somehow. I really like this, and second Adam’s request for more of the same.
KenderBryant Says:
Hah! That would be great if Disney did a LoTR series like that! BTW, the current chapter is excellent. Can’t wait to see what happens next! I mean, a Hunter/Weregeek? That’s a new kind of scary.
vash_ts Says:
that image needs 13 moles with beards and beer….
and 13 cloaks….
vash_ts Says:
and i think that disney would ruin it… first, they would make sure that every parent died, then every vharacter would have a cousin…
and lastly, the battle would have a new kind of specie, one that dont bleed when cut in half… ¬¬
Francisco Says:
I hope you feel better soon (and I hope your computer situation is sorted out).
Ceallo Says:
Get better soon!
Also, I’d like to point at that the figure on the left looks like Splinter
Sochsun Says:
Anyone else getting a massive Redwall vibe from this? I was looking at that and going, “Well there’s a picture from one of my childhood books.”
Theta Says:
I’d always thought a hobbit was what happened when a hobo had sex with a rabbit in the swamp.
Ryuzaki Says:
Whoa… It’s like Lord of the Rings fused with the Redwall series. That’s pretty awesome right there.
fish Says:
Mithrandir as a badger, totally makes sense. From now on I’ll always think of him as one. Wonderful drawing
Skoozi Says:
AWESOME!
Get better soon!
Damien Sim Says:
Love the sketch
Hope you feel better soon
Jackrum Says:
Kinda reminds me of that bit in Bender’s Game-
“Is that a hobbit over there?”
“No, that’s a hobo and a rabbit, but they’re making a hobbit.”
Ciji Says:
I love this sketch! The details are wonderful, including the smoke dragon. Any chance this might show up in the store?
Current story is great too — can’t imagine where it’s going which is good.
Get well soon — rest is good !
mordicai Says:
I actually PLAYED a rabbit hobbit in a campaign once! The DM had decided that the halflings in his campaign were basically the rabbits from Watership Down, only you know, bigger & humanoid.
Plasma Man Says:
I can imagine Bilbo running down the road, going “Oh my paws and whiskers! I’m late!”
akeyes Says:
hope you feel better:)
Alondro Says:
Yay, furry versions!
This reminds me, did I mention that the author of “The Last Unicorn”, Peter S. Beagle, is going to be at Anthrocon this year?
Karine Says:
Gandalf as a badger, too — that’s perfect. I love this image.
Brent Says:
Yay! I think hobbit into rabbit is the perfect natural progression. I add my vote to those that wish to see more of this.
I hope you feel better soon, Alina! We still have some Catan to play…
that one Says:
This is absolutely fantastic, but there is one thing that’s bothering me… why is Bilbo wearing shoe-things?
Btw, sending telepathic health vibes rite now.
gnrrrg Says:
Where headed down tongue twister lane here people. Soon we’ll have a rabid rabbit hobbit rapidly hippity hopping around its ribald habitat or something like that.
Xana Says:
This reminded me more of Redwall than anything. Just some more mice are needed.
filkin Says:
Memories of Redwall surfacing…next we’ll have monitor lizard Urukhai, and wolverine Ringwraiths. Mayhaps?
Ryu-Chan Says:
Ahahahaha I love it! I wonder what the rest of the cast would be? Hm… I bet the elves would be either cats or foxes….
Tebunga Says:
definetly
elfs= foxes
dwarves=moles
urukhai=lizards
Tebunga Says:
Gentlemen I believe that we have a fan made movie on our hands, now the only questiong is; who is going to do the animation?
MercTheMad Says:
We don’ need no stinkin’ badgers!
Brendan Says:
Bilbo should be a mole so this could be a scene out of Wind in the Willows.
Midsie Says:
I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who enjoyed the Redwall series enough to immediately see a resemblance.
Tebunga Says:
@midsie; aye my sentiments down to the last letter
as for you MercTheMad i heartily disagree
dr pepper Says:
> I always loved the show ‘The Wind in the Willows”
I hope you’ve read the original story.
