I was going to post something cheesy and Christmas-y for today’s post, but after braving the stores and hearing the endless litany of covers and (cringe) auto-tuned Christmas carols, I’m now thoroughly sick of the saccharine, and thought you might be too.
So, instead, here’s a lady and a dragon. I’m particularly pleased with how the dragon came out. It looks like some sort of delicate thing bred as a lap-dog/guardian, and is clearly enjoying having it’s necked scritched.
(If you’re still in the mood for some holiday cheer, feel free to imagine that they’re sitting under some mistletoe in a great hall, near a roaring fire, and that a harpist is gently playing ‘Silent Night’ in the background. MUCH better Christmas music than the pop-divas renditions (read – butchering) of classic carols. Or worse… I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus. I really can’t stand that song…)

Made me think of “The Dragon Riders of Pern” series.

Faerie Dragon FTW! Not all modern singers have butchered music. If you haven’t heard Enya’s ‘Oiche Chiuin’ you haven’t lived. ‘Green the Whole Year Round’ performed by Lisa Kelly of Celtic Woman is a wonderful new song (written by David Downes) that has a traditional feel. Also, Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want …..You’ is now considered a Christmas staple (even featured on Celtic Thunder’s Christmas video performed by Keith Harkin), and for a Pop-mas song, it’s not half bad.
Redleg Says:
That’s not Daenerys Targaryen, is it?
Dr Herbert West Says:
There’s also “I Saw Mommy Kissing Yog Sothoth” on the HP Lovecraft Historical Society’s A Very Scary Solstice album

I particularly like “Oh Come All Ye Olde Ones” and “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Fishmen”.

Thankfully, I have some of Tran-Siberian Orchestra’s Christmas music stuck in my head. (On this night, on this night, on this Merry Christmas night….)
I wish everyone a happy Christmas, with all the love and joy possible!
(Also: “Grandma Got Runover by a Reindeer” should be banned.)

Chakat Firepaw Says:
Advantage to being a CBC listener: Instead of having a choice between autotuned drek and the same handful of songs from the 40s and 50s you hear everywhere, I get things like the Vinyl Tap Christmas show.[1]
Start out with “Takin’ Care of Christmas”, and follow up with a wide range of good songs including Bob and Doug Mackenzie doing “The 12 Days of Christmas”, Randy Bachman & family doing “Run Run Rudolph” and may other great performers closing with the Pogues.
[1] I also get the three traditional stories on As It Happens: “Bone Button Borscht”, “The Gift of the Magi” and “The Shepherd”.
Harrow Says:
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good fight!
