Insectoid fairies
Insectoid fairies

Was in the mood for doodling fairies, (I’m sure the Changeling game I’m playing in has nothing to do with that urge!) and decided to do a take on the small, petal-clad fairies that you usually see. These one are bug fairies, the more badass cousins of the flower fairies of Cicely Mary Barker fame.

These particular drawings were just me futzing around with my sketchbook and a ballpoint pen, but now that I’ve got the basics worked out, I really want to try a watercolor piece in her style. I think the dragonfly fairy could be particularly ethereal and malicious looking with a little work on the design.

Glad you guys like these ones!

I’m playing in a nWoD-ish game. (‘Ish’ because of some tweaks to make it run better as a LARP.)

I’m playing an Autumn Court Spider Beast named Aranea. (Hence the spider doodle that kicked all of this off.) She’s an information broker, and collects and trades secrets, rumors, and knowledge. I’ll have to see if I can get some pictures at the next game – my costume includes six extra gemstone eyes stuck to my forehead, which is a simple-yet-creepy touch I’m pretty happy with.

assuming the right one is the dragon fly fay, I got the impression someone has seen a torchwood episode too many times.

The spider one is definitely the scariest. I would run away screaming if I ever saw it in real life. The others would depend on how big they were, I think. And how malicious.

Now a question I have been asking myself for a while now is what what would the weregeek characters play. Abby would be something zany, Dustin something that would be big guy or british (or both), Sarah calm, cool, sexy (like steampunk, vampire, shadowrun games), joel sneaky and/or criminal, and Mark something newbish. But since Changeling offers so much opportunities to make unique characters you can’t tell exactly.

Aww, no cWoD players out there? I just havn’t been able to get into the new stuff, although I did like the look of the new Changeling more than anything else.

Changeling: the Lost is AWESOME. (One of the best RPG books I’ve read, actually.) Urabyfirst, it’s a drastically different game from Changeling: the Dreaming, but I think they did a good job with it.

I know keeping faeries as pets is probably against all sorts of laws, but I want that spider thing.

  23. threetails Says:

I see Abby as a fairest or elemental – possibly flame or lightning – Spring. Dustin as a Beast – english bulldog in a pith helmet and monocle (not sure which court), Sarah darkling- Autumn. Mark as possibly a ogre – Summer. Joel – possible darkling or wizened with Winter court

    Top Left: Spider
    Top Right: Dragonfly
    Bottom Left: Scarab?
    Bottom Right: Ant

These are really awesome, please post the watercolors when you do them, please!!!!!
