Every once in a while someone will ask me to draw characters from an unusual game system, and I always get a kick out of these commissions, especially if I’ve played the system before. (Drawing Amber characters is always interesting, and I tip my hat to the guy who commissioned a Dogs in the Vineyard character!)
So, when I saw that someone wanted me to draw some Deadlands characters, I was pretty excited. I’m a big fan of weird west, and I’m particularly fond of how the expressions came out in this picture. The tall card shark looks like he’s perpetually up to something, and the lady inventor looks like she not only knows that, but has taken it into account for her calculations of potential outcomes.

Me, I’ve always wondered what kind of Pokemon trainers the gang would be. I’d try to draw it myself as fan art, but I’m terrible at figure drawing.
Lefty Says:
Dogs was arguably the best game I’ve had since starting college, hence the commission. Should it get off the ground in the next three months, my next commission might stem from My Life with Master.
Christopher Sheets Says:
It’s “card sharp,” not “card shark.” I blame the 1970s game show.
Asa Says:
Actually according to wikipedia, the terms “card sharp” “card shark” and “card snarp” are interchangeable.
Great picture, I love the background and the expressions on the characters’ faces.
Aly Says:
I love Deadlands! Always nice to see someone mention it; it was my first real rp experience. Love the art!
filkin Says:
Great pic. Speaking of Deadlands, didn’t the gang have plans to run that Crow Hill campaign still?
Dainpdf Says:
These remind me of memorable Hellen and David from Narbonic… Not sure if it was intentional, but it is awesome! Get some gerbils in there!
Jared Says:
Mr Smoochy’s going to stick his own cigarette in his eyeball if he’s not carefull. Those things’l kill ya.
Harrow Says:
So do heads really go “konk” when knocked together? I must find some deplorable ruffians and experiment.
