Guest Strip by Jeph Jacques
Guest Strip by Jeph Jacques

I’m sure the art speaks for itself, but today’s guest strip is by Jeph Jacques, of Questionable Content. Β He has very kindly taken time away from his new kitty (KITTY!!) and from drawing indie hipsters in space to draw some geeks sitting around a gaming table. (Something he seems to have some experience with!)

I am beside myself with glee at seeing what my characters would look like in the QC universe. (Though, I’m certain that QC-universe Joel would have gotten himself an anthro-PC, and I shudder to think of all of the hacks and modifications he would have subjected the poor thing to, because you know he would…) I also love that he got Abbie’s short attention span absolutely dead on. I also think that Sarah would be extremely interested in anything Garrus related, and that this gaming session would derail several seconds after the last panel.

I am totally looking forward to hanging out with Jeph again at Emerald City. Not only is he a pretty cool guy to hang out and sketch dinosaurs with, but a high five with this dude is pretty epic, especially if your hands are as freakishly small as mine!

There’s a reason why I’m the only one (other than the DM) allowed to have a laptop at the table. I don’t twitter, facebook or anything else BUT game.
Well, that and I’m the only one with a Common-to-Drow translator. πŸ™‚

  4. It can be distracting, but it can be a useful tool, too.

We started implementing MANDATORY WiFi access as part of our giant six-to-eight-player, two-GM Star Wars Saga game, and it bled over to the other campaigns our group runs. In Star Wars, it started as a useful tool that let the GMs “mindlink” to each other, to allow PCs to have in-character interactions when the table focus was on another part of the party, and to let players ask the GMs questions without interrupting the flow of the game.

What we’ve DISCOVERED is that it’s made the age-old tradition of PASSING NOTES TO THE GM almost IMPOSSIBLE to distinguish from Texting My Friend Jerry In Milwaukee.

Now, in our IRONCLAW game, a couple of us are wondering if maybe the mysterious death of the Skeevy NPC Noble Who Wasn’t Really The Big Bad After All was due to one of the PCs texting the GM with “I KEEL HIM DEAD” whilst keeping a poker face all the while ….

Awesome strip. I can kinda relate. When I was gaming, cell phones would go off right in the middle of a battle or a big scene.

    Side note: Abbie looks like Misty from Pokemon in this comic. ^^;;

GAH! The dreaded WI-FI! This strip is my worst nightmare as a GM! Usually I’ll save the SRD of a system while we’re running that so any questions they may have can be resolved.

Mind you, our group has always favored rules-light systems and most D20 system rules we’ve all memorized anyway.

I’ll make an exception to the rule if someone uploads complete episodes of Samurai Pizza Cats or Saber Riders and the Star Sheriffs though…

I follow both these strips. This just confused me so much in the RSS reader (c’mon who reads the feed titles?). I wasn’t sure, at first, which strip I was supposed to be reading; I at first thought it was an awesome crossover. I thought for a moment the Weregeeks made it to the space station for Hanners’ dad’s birthday party and were playing DnD.

Wow, the electronic distractions have increased dramatically since I was a teenager. Back then it was the TV and stereo that interrupted the flow of the game, now we have to contend with cheap laptops, tablets and smartphones. Portable MP3 players too, if you’re really bored with the game. “What’s that, GM? I was totally distracted by the latest Harry Potter soundtrack.”

Obedient Serpent: Very cool you found a way to use wireless gadgets constructively to enhance the game.

Hello there, I discovered your webcomic via QC and tonight I’ll be playing a game of Munchkin in your honor, my dearest lady. I’ve been reading these epic adventures since Wednesday nonstop and surely will keep up with weregeek. Greetings from a Brazil geek! πŸ˜€

(And I find it absolutely fair to turn off WiFi during a game. I’m quite tyrannical DM haha 8D )

I found you through this guest strip from QC, and I have fallen in love! This is my group!! We were trying to determine if I was really Sarah or not when my husband and I read the strip from March 1, 2012. That cinched it. They call me Den Mother (or DM 2) and before I actually started gaming with them, I would cook these crazy lavish meals! I was determined to make my husbands D&D group the healthiest and tastiest one out there! I even had a model for being the Den Mother!! Love it, keep up the GREAT work!!
