Abbie, what are you doing? You are going to break that game… Oh wait, it’s already broken, nevermind.
Also, while I’m not a big fan of shooters in general, there’s something undeniably fun about playing the shooting games that you find at any arcade. Maybe it’s the “shoot off the screen to reload” mechanic, that makes me aim off-screen every few seconds so I don’t accidentally run out of bullets, or maybe it’s just that having a brightly-colored, vaguely-gun-shaped piece of plastic in your hands feels more ‘in the game’ than a standard controller, but they’re surprisingly fun. (Even if, like me, you really, really suck at them.)

Ummmm, Abbie, can you teach me to flip epically like that…..
Zombies must die, the flesh is delicious

My boyfriend bought himself a light gun for use at home, so I think it’s safe to say the guns help with the immersion process and just make the entire experience more enjoyable. Although, he enjoys FPS’s and is pretty phenomenal at shooting, so that could have something to do with his buying the light gun in the first place. Either way — light gun definitely made him enjoy his FPS gaming even more!
FSilvermane Says:
I just love the “2 Fisted Shooter” style she uses,… I tried that once and failed miserably [I cannot hit the broad side of a barn with my left hand] until I started shooting thug style with the wrist turned so that both guns are “inside my arms” and the barrels are right next to one another,….lol
MerchManDan Says:
And here I thought Abbie wanted to go to the arcade so she could actually PLAY the GAMES. How very silly of me.
tudza Says:
On the few occasions I’ve played games with two pistols, I’ve used both at the same time. It is simply more awesome.
Harrow Says:
Personally, I could never understand the attraction of the shooting gallery style games. My character needs to have some more freedom to run around, otherwise they’ll end up being a zombie buffet. Today’s special: warm intestines! Yum yum!
Ray Says:
Yeah, standard controllers suck for shooters. Guns do too, as there is no way to mount a movement control on one that isn’t terribly awkward.
Mouse/keyboard is really the only precise way of controlling a shooter and giving you freedom of movement that doesn’t terribly get in the players way. I tend to forget that it does have a bit of a learning curve, however. It took a really good game with controls that could not be customized to get be to finally use it enough to realize just how smooth, simple, and precise it was.
Calvin Copyright Says:
Are you kidding? I ROCK at them! (Not at Abbie-style shooting with one gun per hand, though.) But I thought you’d do something DDR related… maybe one of those guys you see every now and again who can hit every step on hardest difficulty without using the bar behind him?
Quinn Says:
Heh, I remember someone at a certain Gunnapolooza event quiet enjoying herself. Cough.
Frank Says:
I don’t like light guns for FPS (as a matter of fact, all my FPS gaming is restricted to PC gaming) but for rail shooters (House of the Dead, Time Crisis, etc) they are a MUST! It’s so much fun to blow the brains out of a zombie with a pistol on your hand than with a standard controller.

Dude, you should try Airsoft.

The game could never match the awsomeness going through Addies mind.
Ray Says:
Heck yeah! Used that in MW4 doing things people said the game program wouldn’t allow. Jumpjets to stand back up, Ha.
Thornir Says:
Favorite arcade game of all time – Operation: Wolf, with its cabinet mounted uzis. I got to the point where I could complete it on one quarter (ah, the good old days 25 cents for 45 minutes of fun), so I started going for accuracy.
Never tried using both pistols at the same time on a game – probably because I’m too cheap to pay twice as much to last half as long since I would inevitably suck with two guns.
Anoria Says:
Is that an Axe Cop cameo on the side of the game machine?
Tokoz Says:
Hey, it is!
KenderBryant Says:
Ah, the shooting games. My brother and I frequently played Area 51 when we were younger. I usually died pretty quickly (I’m TERRIBLE at those kinds of games), so he’d have to continue on without me, which usually didn’t last too much longer. I kinda miss that.
cthulhusteve Says:
Two-gun mojo IS tough to handle properly…I have it so that one is always loaded because I seem to go through ammo faster than anything…the toughest part is to aim at different targets when you are being mobbed.
Harrow Says:
Ha! Time to inflict a fatality on Mark.
