Tabletop!!
Tabletop!!
Second part of code:

I doubt I need to tell any of you about the awesomeness of Tabletop, but just in case, here’s a link to the show: Tabletop!

You really *must* watch it! Not only does it feature a bunch of games that are perfect for the sort of games night that Dustin likes to host, but they’re also a great chance to see some of the geekiest people in Hollywood play the same games that you or I do! Some of the games that have been featured are old classics, like Settlers of Catan or Munchkin, and some of them I discovered through the show and am desperate to get my hands on, like Fiasco and Dixit.

In fact, so many of the games on the show are such old favorites around the gaming table that it’s become something of a running gag at games night. Whenever something that was featured on the show is pulled out, everyone ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’, then says ‘as seen on Wil Wheaton’s Tabletop!!’. I knew I had to work that into the comic somehow, and Dustin seemed the likeliest choice to deliver a delightfully cheesy line. (Anyone remember ‘wackity wacky, power atacky?‘)

I like Tabletop well enough, but to really get a feel for seeing a game played, I like Watch It Played (http://www.youtube.com/user/WatchItPlayed) which, instead of a list of celebrity and psuedo celebrity geeks, features a guy playing mostly genre games in the same vein with his kids.

Tabletop is probably one of the best things on YouTube right now. Not only is it fun watching them play through some old favourites, but I’ve discovered some really great games that I look forward to playing.

And one of my new goals is to play a board game with Wil Wheaton at a con. Because that would be amazeballs!

I would watch Tabletop, but I heard Wil Wheaton was on it, so that pretty much kills it for me.

I’ll check out Watch It Played, though; sounds interesting. Thanks to those that recommend it!

I really liked the idea and concept of Tabletop!, but I really wasn’t a fan of how they tried to make it an oh-so-funny reality show. Way too much americanisms in there. Just add some awkward humor and it’s all there. But I really would like to like it, and probably watching it some more might make me change my mind. Props for the concept, anyhow!

I’ll need to check Watch it Played out, though. Thanks for sharing!

Dixit is awesome. I’ve lost both times I’ve played, but it is so much fun it doesn’t matter.

Of all the regular Geek and Sundry shows, Tabletop is the one I keep coming back to.

I’m guessing they’ll never play Cards Against Humanity on Tabletop, but it would be an interesting episode.

Whoa! I feel like I’m Dustin now, because that’s eerily similar to how I must have come off when I first saw the show and had bought Smallworld. :O

One of the really cool things about trains in Canada is that when they switched to the diesel engines back when, they got the guy who did the steam clock in Gastown, Vancouver to design the whistles. So while American trains (from what I gather) have whistles, Canadian ones have these great multi-toned horns that sound like the old steam ones.

All of which is to say that the Canadian ones, at least, really do still go “Toot toot”!
