Who turned the color off?
Who turned the color off?

Hey everyone! This is not some crazy flashback scene – that 3-panel tall action scene at the bottom just kicked my butt!! It took WAY longer than I’d expected to color and shade all of the tiny details. Rather than put it up unshaded and ruin the reveal of the final piece, I decided to simply post it greyscale until I get the gradients and special effects all added. Thanks for understanding!!

Also, I’ll be in Victoria this weekend for GottaCon, so if you live on Vancouver Island, come on down and say hi! (Plus, I mean, it’s an all-weekend gaming con – who could resist?)

Actually I Like the Comic as is! It gives a Very C’thulu or Clash of the Titans epic monster feel to it. Leave it Grey! :)

for the print comic to come, put both versions in it, i like it in grey, but I also want to see it in full color

I kinda like the grey, it’s like classic horror movies.

This arc is awesome ^^ I really like how the geeky super power works, and all the different shadowy forms they take on. And whoa thats big. que the boss battle music. I really want to learn more about what all the main cast are capable of in their geeked out form :)

I’m with LoneHowler on this one. The greyscale gives it that classic horror movie feel which is perfect for this scene.

Fortunately, they’ve trained for this exact situation. Although I doubt they can fight this one with rock-paper-scissors.

I would color the bottom massive shot, but just add a little effect to the top 3, the black and white effect looks like he’s hiding a closet with little to no light, which is a nice effect.

I like the grayscale ALOT, if there were any changes I’d think about having it start as colored from panel one and shift into grey through panels two and three cause that monstergeek hunter looks awesome with the monster movie omage. Its yours to make so we’ll love whatever you do with it!

  14. Lunaroki Says:

Definitely should leave some of the panels grayscale for that classic monster movie/gothic noir look. It really works well for this scene! Or maybe color things and people not near Murdock and leave him and whatever’s near him grayscale. It could be like the next stage of his evolving powers, or a side effect brought about by the geek/anti-geek war raging inside his soul.

  15. Joe Z Says:

When I first saw this, I assumed the greyscale was a deliberate effort to indicate that things just got really serious.

Anyway, what in the world did they do to this poor Murdock guy? Also, did he appear in any earlier strips or is this his first appearance?

  16. Rorror Says:

While I certainly like the grayscale, I’m dying to see the colour version. You should leave both online, like a while back with the werewolf larp.

  17. Solokov Says:

    @Joe Z

The geeks attempted a simmilar brainwashing as what the hunters tried, Murdock was then captured by Omega Squad after he geeked out too much and escaped.

This is the first time we’ve seen him in “weregeek” form.

I think that the first frames would be nice in colour, but the big one would look good if it stayed in B&W

Apparently his geek-form has evolved and grown. Is this a special strength that half-geeks have like saiyin-human mixes? Perhaps Mark’s geek form will have such prowess . . .once he figures out how to activate it, that is.

I thought the monochrome look was referencing Kill Bill – this looks like it could be as epic as the Bride’s battle against the Crazy 88s.

I say it again, but some sort of monochrome aura has still something novel about it to show “this one is special”.

Okay, since we’re all aboard the madness train and the cops *aren’t* coming to end this, I’m assuming that the next couple comics are going to be Mark seeing Sarah in trouble, going into some kind of DBZ-esque “Super Weregeek” mode, and putting a hurt on Geek-thulu there.

“So – what could be Weremurdocks weakness…?”

Going by the behavior of both the geek and militaristic guys I’ve met (notice I did not say military), I’d say women. Sarah in vampire mode could make him crumble.
