Here is another commissions I got at ECCC. I spent a long time trying to figure out who Mark would be, and then figured that it was most amusing if he was Wesley. Joel as Q, however, is spot on.

*coughs* It took me a moment to realize that he’s supposed to be Q and not Kai Winn.

Does that make Abbie Worf or Tasha?

So, the new story line only started this week, after two weeks of comedy checks and sketches, and Monday was a strip that had already been previewed, and today is yet another sketch instead of a comic… Weregeek is still my favorite web comic but I’ve got to say, it’s dragging a bit too much of late.

Lord V: She just finished a major story arc and you don’t expect her to take a little time to gather her thoughts? Friday is always sketch day. It’s not supposed to be a storyline day so don’t think of it that way. She was at a con (which would take even more time away from preparing the next arc). She always does Con Adventures after a con. And you’re complaining about getting a preview too? Geez.

Well I apologize if my post came over too harshly. As I said, Weregeek is my favorite web comic and I really love the characters and stories (well except for the hunter storyline but that’s over now!) However, please hold your nerd-enraged valiant defender reflex ™ for a minute. Firstly, Friday = sketch day is something you just made up. I’ve checked. There is no kind of regular Friday sketch, although there have been a bunch of sketch Fridays lately.

Secondly, I just counted all the posts made this year up to the beginning of the second chronicle. Yes, I procrastinate at work, in case you were wondering. These were a total of 67 posts, of which there were 10 interlude strips and 14 sketches. The remaining 43 were strips within the Weregeek plot although 15 of those were just funny little situations or pieces of dialogue (basically more convention adventures). 28 strips actually moved the story along (that’s two out of five, roughly). So this is what I mean by “it’s dragging a bit too much”. I suppose this has to do with Alina not really having a stomach for the hunter story line, and the commission work mentioned in the Patreon announcement, so I was hoping that with the Patreon well under way and the hunter story line finally wrapped up, we were back to normal schedule. Which is why I reacted as I did to that sketch.

Though I have to admit I do like “Sarah Troy”. :)

I’m so used to Q dressing in a Starfleet uniform that for a second I thought Joel was meant to be Guinan. Thank you for the clarification – I will not have to stop reading this strip.

When I saw this, my first thought was “ooh, a Sci-fi game”! Darn. But I suppose there are enough games going on already. I agree the characters are all great picks.

Incidentally, Fridays are very much sketch days and exceptions are fairly rare. Weregeek has always cycled back and forth between sometimes intense in-game stuff and usually light real-world stuff and I was expecting some “downtime” after the mega-intense ending of the Hunter arc.

Fridays are sketch days unless Alina has to use the sketch day earlier in the week for things like holidays, conventions, colds, or family emergencies etc. So typically we get four comic days and one sketch day, with sketch day usualy being Friday.
This week did seem to be slow, but you have to forgive artists they are human and life does get in the way sometimes.
Frankly I’m impressed by Alina’s skills that she puts out four quality full color comics, plus a sketch. When most artists typically have a three comic per week schedual, or just once per week

Alina – have you seen Wil Wheaton perform “William Fucking Shatner” from his tour with Paul and Storm? It’s a very funny story about when he met Shatner while working on ST:NG. And a little sad, too. It’s easily found on Youtube. Highly recommend it to any Trek or Big Bang Theory fans.

  14. Bluegeek Says:

I would love to see a Weregeek Star Trek theme, but the closest thing to ST:RPG is Star Trek Online and I can’t see the whole cast getting involved in that.

Still, a visit to a Star Trek convention could be amusing. Make it so! ;)

  15. I’ve always had a weird-he-is-a-cartoon crush on Joel. And now he’s Q, with whom I have an equally unhealthy preoccupation.
HOW DO YOU KNOW THESE THINGS.
