Opening night jitters
Opening night jitters

Much as I love wearing costumes, I gotta agree with Kirk, there. A “casual cosplay” outfit is way comfier than full cosplay, plus you don’t have to worry about getting popcorn butter on it as much.

  1. People still wait in line on opening night for movies?

I remember doing that years ago, sure, but I figured online seat selection did away with that phenomenon pretty effectively.

That stuff they put on movie theater popcorn isn’t butter; at least, not in California it isn’t! Last time I got popcorn at the movies, I was in a hurry and forgot to salt it. I couldn’t even get through half of a small, because all I could taste was the coconut oil Edwards was trying to pass off as butter. Bleh!

At the opening of Rogue One I wore a shirt with the U.S.S Enterprise on it “#1 Star Wars Fan”. I like to mess with the minds of the people.

I never go to opening nights. I usually wait until I can see it for free. It takes longer but it’s worth it to avoid long lines and overpriced tickets.

  6. And Kirk was doing so well in those first two panels.

I think it’s less “missing the fun” and more “don’t want any spoilers.”

Kirk’s right, even though there’s a lot of stress involved, it’s usually worth it. Even if the movie is absolutely awful, he should have a good time.

My good lady LOVES opening nights for nerd movies – while I may grumble… it makes her happy enough that it is worth every minute of the wait. 🙂

Being with her is the fun.

I am quite happy to wait on a lot of movies until they come out on Blu-Ray. I have a nice TV at home, much better popcorn, and most Blu-Rays price out at less than one evening at the movies for two people. Also it’s nice to be able to pause it if you need to take a leak.

That said, the whole opening night experience is loads of fun for younger folks. My daughter drove up to the city to see the premiere of “Serenity.” She fixed herself up as her most beloved character, Hawaiian shirt, plastic dinosaur, and all. I still have a photo somebody took of her face after the movie, and it was damn lucky for Whedon back then that he lived hundred of miles away.
