The 13th Doctor

I’m so excited, ya’ll. But probably not as excited as Sarah.

  1. Well then, why do I get the sinking feeling we’re gonna soon see whatever spanner it is that Jess is going to throw into the works?

  3. I had several People in my Twitter and Facebook going apeshit about this.
Because apparently that magical space-time-Alien can’t have a vagoo..

    People are idiots.

But maybe i just don’t care because i never watched Dr. Who and the concept of a being not being the outer shell is old news to me thanks to Curzon, Jadzia and Ezri Dax in Star Trek

My feelings on the doctor being turned into a woman are almost the same as if you told me the next storm will be played by a white dark haired man.

But it seems it works for the show’s current audience, and I left the show a few seasons ago, so good for them.

I am most definitely as excited as Sarah, I’ve been waiting for this for years (I mean, I kinda wanted Helena Bonham Carter, but this works too) and I’ve already started putting together a cosplay! (Actually I’m still at the “make a sewing pattern” stage but yknow…) I’m so excited for next season

Honestly, my reaction was almost exactly opposite to Sarah’s thoughts in the second panel. I had been hoping for a female Doctor even BEFORE the debut of the Mistress, and once that particular change happened, I knew the next step was inevitable. By proving that Time Lords COULD regenerate as a different gender, they had already pretty much shattered the glass ceiling for the Doctor, so the event of someone actually passing through that empty space just makes me nod my head and say, “well, it’s about time someone did that.”

Oh, this is the “13th” Doctor? *pauses to listen for Whovian angst about a n number that’s really only unlucky if you happen to be a French Templar* 🙂

Remember that episode of Community where Brita decided that the Female Inspector Spacetime was the best Inspector without ever actually seeing the show and only having just learned about her existence? That show was streets ahead.

They shoudl just take Wishbone and make him the doctor for a season or two. But then, I’m one of the many getting tired of gender discussions. I just hope the new doctor is entertaining, is all. A good writer can help a poor actress a lot, but there’s only so much witty dialog can do for poor delivery and ability.

Little Girls didn’t need the doctor to be a woman to dress up as the Doctor.

Technically not the first female Doctor. 1999, as part of Comic Relief, there was a Doctor Who sketch, where Joanna Lumley played the Doctor. While non-canon, it was still the first time the Doctor was played by and actress, and despite the satyrical nature of the scene, still should come into consideration.

Honestly this isn’t a big deal to me. If River Song can choose to regenerate as a black woman in one of her incarnations, and the Master can come back as The Mistress, is it really that earth shattering to find out that the Doctor can do the same?

The real issue will be who’s going to be the new companion. I don’t think Bill, who has done a fantastic job so far (especially in lampshade-hanging), will be a comfortable fit in this case.

The companion should be male, and play nicely off of a woman with the Doctor’s arrogant, domineering personality who’s a lot smarter than he is. Has to be the standard Exposition Target, but shouldn’t be submissive either. Chemistry is all-important. Suggestions out there?

Hmmm. Just looked up Bill on Wikipedia. Looks like I should finish up my taped episodes. Never mind!

I’m a woman and I’ve never had a problem dressing as the Doctor. Well, there was that one time some guy told me not to lose my femininity when I was cosplaying as the 4th Doctor. But I wrote a filk song about that and it made me feel tons better.
