Wow. It’s not a 100% the same, but that concept is familiar enough that I got a tinge of stress reading this…. Good job ๐Ÿ˜€

Putting on your nice clothes is like putting on a costume. You’re still you, but knowing you look good gives you more confidence in yourself, maybe letting you act in ways you secretly want to but usually don’t have the confidence for.

Oof. That one hits rather close to home.

Wow. I never thought about it that way, but it’s totally true.

I don’t think I’ve ever been able to articulate why I worry about my appearance and how its not just about impressing someone and you nailed it on the head right here.

I completely get this and definitely do this when dressing. Wearing clothes that are uncomfortable or I think donโ€™t look nice make me so stressed out.

  8. Interesting idea. On the application side, does a low-cut blouse add to or subtract from armour class? Is it class-restricted?

Alina, you could have so/too much fun with this.

Also applies to makeup… doubly so for being a person with a penis, perhaps. “War paint”, we call it, in my household.

Looking good means that we have at least one thing to hold onto, I suppose.

Almost this exact dialogue goes through my head, like, all the time while getting dressed.

  11. Aita, is there a bonus to a Disguise roll? There is just too much fun with this topic.

Oh man, I know exactly how Sarah feels. Looking nice can go a long way to making a person feel confident, even if they’re not.

Gene: Bonuses to oppose diplomacy and intimidate, certainly, especially in job interviews and the like. CHA boost for typical job clothes, but Fascination spell-like effects for my normal street clothes (I tend to wear heavy skirts and capelets, because I hate pants. Can incite anger, but only rarely.

Makeup negates the effects of disease and fatigue on all Social rolls. Can also act like “Tattoo of Friendship”, in specific cases (I’ve had two people pick out the “Pinkal” crest, which I’ll occasionally doodle on my hand before going out).

And all of this is a couple tiers before “LARPing as a successful, functional adult” level of makeup and clothes, though yes, a costume helps make the character in that case as well~

Part of me says you all are nuts. Even though I know some people really feel that way. As a left over hippy, I can probably count the number of times I have worn makeup on my fingers, seriously (and yes I’m an XX) and I’m of the “Are the clothes clean and not worn out, or made to look worn out?” okay you pass the clothes part of the interview. (Yes, I hire people).

I understand, and have difficulty picking out the right clothes as well by myself, so ask for help.

  16. Ari, about “I can probably count the number of times I have worn makeup on my fingers.”, you could just say “nail polish”. Or is it a different type of makeup.

  17. Sparksol Says:

Gene, I’m pretty sure that means “The number of times I’ve worn makeup is fewer than I have digits on my hands.”

  18. Sparksol, go check my blog. I have a weekly feature of Odd Language where I point out ambiguous language. English is messy for having misplaced modifiers.

Wow, you managed to put words to the feeling! This is exactly what it is like.
