poke the Steven with your LARP sword whenever he talks over five minutes on end. Maybe that helps?

Except in the very early strips, I never found him to be that annoying. Plus, a geek rommate that’s already in the game group is way better than a total stranger.

Jesus, $1200 was a 2 bedroom in Florida. Where do they live that that can get them all this?

YAY! I’ve been hoping for more Steven stories. Every time he starts talking I wanna hug him. It will be neat to see more of him outside of the games.

You might find out that Stephen is actually very quiet at home. He might just retire to his room and play games on his own.

I seriously doubt that Steven can be more annoying than that guy 🙂

If they are renting, why is Dustin paying for the plumber?

To those of you asking about the housing/rent/plumber/&c:
Dustin is the homeowner, and is renting to some of his friends.

@lolapop2: Yep. I’m renting a three bedroom house in Georgia for 900 a month. Just depends on where you live.

  19. DocMcConvoy Says:

Well, thats the reason why you should always have 3 monthly salarys as emergency money on your bank account. And why you should not spend it on geek-emergencies.

@ConnellArawn: I would guess Dustin is paying the plumber cause maybe he is the actuall person who signed the renting contract and the others are renting their rooms from him.

  20. TCS Says:

A lot of questions about the price of rent here… My understanding is that they need an additional $300 minimum to cover the repair cost. That doesn’t mean that Steven would be paying $300/month, just that that is the added amount needed right now if they don’t add a roommate ASAP.

Price for a single bedroom in an apartment with 2-4 tenants where I went to college was around $350, so I’d guess it’s nearer to $400/month now. Rural area, barely a town outside of the school year. Where I live now, $1000-$1200/month is “reasonable” for a one-bedroom apartment, but rooms in houses still go for $400-$500/month.

  22. N0083rp00F Says:

Must be nice where you all live rent wise, TCS included. Why some may ask? Well to put it nicely the rents are [censored] ahem … they start for about $2400 for one bedroom and about $3200 for a two bedroom – mind you this is all downtown so the burbs are a bit less. A room in a house going for less than $1200 and you better start asking pointed questions.

  23. Regarding the 28th’s strip, I do enjoy not being murdered in my sleep either. I suppose I could make an exception for a gaming scenario.

I am posting here, beause it is impossible to post to the 28th’s strip. This situation keeps happening from time to time. Could it, please, be dealt with?

  24. TB Says:

So far we’ve seen that rent is about $1200 a month (if I interpreted that last panel right), there’s at least three rooms, two bathrooms, two floors, and a basement. Not bad for those bucks!

  25. Reese Says:

This one supposes that Dustin is the home owner, and he is renting to his friends to help pay the mortgage and other expenses, which explains why he said he said rent would have to go up $100 each to his two room mates, but also why he is personally paying the plumber.

It’s also possible that they simply live in a region where there are no legal protections for renters to be reimbursed for fixing their own problems. (or that the landlord has to first fail to provide service, and that by getting it fixed directly without first asking for it to be fixed, they somehow waived their right to reimbursement.)

As a reader I never found steven annoying, and for a “Talking guy” his characters are surprisingly silent: both in vampire and changeling, he did manage to sneak out of the group.

This might be an interesting character arc after all. And let’s hope that triangle of Mark/Ravennia/Justin is in the past 😛

    March 2 comic – Hmmmm.
They could subdivide the basement and make a smaller yet secure armory for the swords.
The alternative is a bit more involved and requires some carpentry skills to thicken the walls/ceiling/floor of the noisy room. I have been to a few such places at European BnBs that cater to those suffering from the horrible night trains/flights/jetlag. Just have to watch your step in/out of the room. =P

My sister was just like Steven when she was younger. xD If I could handle her, I’m sure they can handle Steven, because I am similar to them. I’m a antisocial nerd who sits in her room all day, not caring if her armpits smells of onions or not fighting creatures and mobs on video games.
