I LOVE IT! I might actually use something like this to get stuff done with my new house… Or hubby and I can roll off on chore division weekly/monthly. Until the minions, er, CHILDREN are old enough to take on more. 😛

Hell, Random Chore Encounters Table makes sense. While many gamers can’t be assed about chores and will argue with any at least slightly subjective method of assigning chores, many a gamer won’t argue if they personally roll something on their favourite dice 😀

I just LOVE the idea of a random chore encounter list! This is so going to appear on my fridge… roomies, beware!

    No, Doug, you’re just lazy.

Are you kidding? Arguing about rolls is a given among most players :p
I’ve had a player complain about letting him fail on a ‘1’ on a d4 because I, according to him, knew that “1 comes up more often than all the other numbers…” XD

So what I’m seeing here is if they would actually tell him he’s a bit much and could he give them some space for a bit, he’d do so? Like if they were polite to him like they want him to be to them? What a crazy concept

Well it sounds like Steven is mildly autistic. In the sense that words have meanings and the fact he likes lists. This is a good way of introducing this without it being a thing. I like this idea.

Thanks to playing 40k and such, I’ve grown quite the hatred for guys like that…
“But the rule says you need to get the water from the well, so you have to jump in there!”
“The frick… You can use the pump. Or a bucket and rope for Heaven’s sake!”
“No. It says ‘you’, not ‘you with pump or a bucket and rope’, so you have to jump in there.”
    “Well, would you?”
“I don’t need water at the moment, so no.”
Don’t annoy is different from others being annoyed. First is you actively doing something, which ypu should not. Second is a passive trait you can attempt to mend, but ultimately isn’t you actively doing something. So yes, even “no annoying your roommates” is doable.

Got to love the chores-table though.

Why would you let other people do your laundry?

I guess I’m lucky to have a roomate that thinks like I do, if something needs doing, just go ahead and do it. We’re not the tidiest of households, but we don’t live in filth either. 🙂

So, from what I gather from this, Steven is excitable but level-headed, and considerate of what others expect and want from him. While Doug is pretty much the exact opposite of that and is currently the one doing all the complaining.

You know, I wonder if this might have been the issue all along. No one’s ever laid out ground rules for him. No one’s ever ASKED him to back off when he gets too talky…

Feels like Doug’s the worst housemate in that bunch now

It doesn’t have a “random chore encounter” mechanic (that I’m aware of), but are y’all familiar with Habitica? Sort of an app that lets you get XP and levels and what-not for doing housework, cultivating good habits, and the like?

Seems like there’d be a certain overlap between the sort of people who enjoy this comic and the sort who’d enjoy Habitica.

  20. Rana Says:

Habitica is great – but the old classic is Chore Wars, which is still going, last time I checked. http://www.chorewars.com/

Scrubbing toilets has gotten much easier since I discovered powered brushes and Comet. Better living through chemistry! And gadgets!

Someone has to be the worst as long as that worst is tolerable to everyone else “most” of the time.

    Somebody: What’s that funky smell?
    Russell: Whut?
    Everyone: Russell!

  25. Weatherheight Says:

Steven seems to me to be the sort of person who likes things explicitly stated so he gets what his responsibilities are. It’s not so much that he can’t decide on his own, he just wants to be sure he’s respecting others. I wonder if he has problems seeing that on his own.

I also think it’s kind of cool that he’s excited about being part of this new “team”. How the heck anyone gets excited about housework is something I have never gotten.

  26. Andy4Hire Says:

Rana – Yes! I’ve used them both, and although Habitica has had more staying power for me, Chore Wars is a great site with some interesting customization options for things like the type and frequency of item drops. Glad to hear it’s still up and running!
