Pretty good well of handling the situation. Allows the sacrifice to have meaning, while Mark can still keep playing his character, if he wants to. Everyone’s happy.

I had a GM force me to come back once against my wishes. This is a beautiful moment depicting a memory that will would make the game so much more fulfilling.

Also nothing could top that moment of sacrifice, so …why cheapen it?

Yeah, after all, Raise Dead spells generally require a willing subject.

Sometimes letting go of a beloved character can be so much more powerfull than keeping him. “A good death” 🙂

Exactly what I expected! Can’t wait to find out what that means for Abbie’s character going forward.

Yep; I’ve been in that exact kind of situation before. Can be pretty satisfying to take that route.

Nice. Preserving player agency while blending it seamlessly with the narrative. Who else is wondering what Abbie’s next character will be?

I’m still wondering if El Pantero is joining the group and Abbie is going to DM for a bit. Abbie’s DM style would be interesting.

Am I the only one hoping that, after seeing Abbie’s beautiful and noble sacrifice, that Mark realises that cheapening his character’s, if not climatic but still in the final showdown, death would actually be wrong and also chooses not the Resurrect the character? He’s a half-orc Barbarian who fell in battle…an honourable and worthy death (even if it was to poison…also, fairly certain Raise dead doesn’t clear/clean/neutralise poison) that should secure him a good place in the afterlife… why cheapen that by allowing himself to be raised?

No? Just me? Okay then, I’ll go back and sit in the corner…

Steven- the difference is that Mark didn’t want to die and absolutely loves his character. (Also pretty sure the elves – or Sarah- would think to cast neutralize poison before the rez.) Abbie deliberately sacrificed herself to save her people, and seems to be content to leave it there.

Really nice job by Joel. And an adult choice by Abbie. Very satisfying.
That said, i would say, that Abbie might have to choose a new character out of the Rogue-Group of classes, since otherwise they would not have someone to pick the locks and remove the traps. Since her elf was a ninja/assassin I guess, a nice change of pace could be a Bard. I am really looking forward to see what she will actually choose.

Actually isn’t Joel’s girlfriend, sorry can’t remember her name off hand, a rogue. They only really need one, so maybe they could finally get a pure faster for Abbie. Or she could try anything, I dislike being forced into an archtype just because the game needs one, I prefer the DM to be flexible with the challenges.

I kind of think Abby would love the Arcane Trickster class. Of course, I can also see her picking something /really/ unexpected, too!
