Dogs are wonderful for doing warm-up sketches, since they come in *so many* shapes and sizes. Some have short, squashed faces with tons of little folds and wrinkles, others have long, almost anteater-like snouts that you can exaggerate for comedic effect. And even dogs of the same breed can have different ways of being drawn – you can see at the bottom where I started to riff on different pitbulls.
In fact, the only other thing I draw more often for my warm-up sketches are dinosaurs, because, come on, dinosaurs.
