Biff! Bam! Pow!

This strip was so unbelievably fun to draw. Actually, this whole storyline has been, but I’m especially fond of this strip. I think it’s the sound effects that does it. I was working on them while some friends were over making characters for our Rifts game, and we got completely side-tracked trying to figure out a good sound effect for “elbow hitting face”. Some of the permutations we came up with were just plain goofy (“ka-elbowed!”).
Sound effects are just one of those things that you see all the time in comics, but never really think about. I mean, who really cares if it says “crack!”, or “ka-rack!” when you’ve got a big splash panel of someone giving someone else a royal beat-down? But the exact same panel would seem rather flat without them. So, I guess what I’m saying is, “Go Sound Effects!”. Way to be all onomatopoeic and stuff.
Oh, and for the record? This guy wins at sound effects. Sweef!
