That’s really just a 10% more chance to resist, though.

Always good to have a backup, in case you find a critter that’s somehow immune to your usual schtick.

I’ve been a bit unclear. Does Sarah have both Cleric and Wizard levels? Because she’s been referred to as a Cleric and she does the turn undead stuff, but she also casts a bunch of the classic wizard spells and I think she’s been referred to as a wizard at one point.

    So I’m a bit confused.

The 50% miss chance is worse.

Out of curiousity, is this character multi-classed? I don’t know of any clerics who can cast Fireball. 🙂

Bet a single classed cleric would have had an easier time of it :p

Okay so, like, someone clarify for me, is Sarah’s character supposed to be a Mystic Theurge or something?

Ironically wraiths are still easier to turn than an equivalent CR zombie (who require a level 16 cleric+maximum roll to turn at CR 6)

I just had a massive flashback to Konosuba. 😀
Ahem, *cough*, by which I am referring to ‘Turn Undead’-spamming. ^^; No negative comment was intended. At all.

To be fair, the wraiths are so expressionless that it’s unclear whether they’re actually laughing. They COULD be, though. Enough to warrant revenge fireballs, apparently.

I’m way out of the loop on D&D anymore, but in Pathfinder, a cleric with the Fire domain gets Fireball as a bonus spell.

@everyone asking about the fireball: I’m not sure what edition they are playing, but in 5E at least; a Light Domain Cleric gets Fireball as a Domain Spell.

According to Alina’s post last week, Sarah is a multiclassed Cleric/Sorcerer. It doesn’t look like she has any Mystic Theurge levels at all, which would put the party at about level 10 and Sarah’s character at rather under powered. But she’s having fun, so play on.

  15. SeriousBiz Says:

The way I’ve understood it, Sarah’s character is indeed a multi-class wizard/cleric combo. From the very beginning, she’s been able to cast both divine and arcane spells (some of the earliest we see her use are Cure Light Wounds and what I assume is Fireball), and she’s been called both a cleric and a mage (or wizard) in the comic. As we see in this strip, she’s having a hard time turning wraiths, which could indicate a relatively low level cleric. Or just a series of really bad rolls, mind you.

In fifth Edition, clerics with the Light Domain *can* cast Fireball. She might also have a scroll of be a Mystic Theurge tho.

  18. Juanaton Says:

According to the September 10 comic, Sarah is one level short of having level 3 cleric spells…so that makes her a 4th level cleric. Since she is casting fireball without a scroll, she has at least 5 wizard levels…or she has the feat that lets her add her casting levels together…I forget what it’s called. So the party is probably level 9ish with Sarah a Wizard5/Cleric4.

I used to play a Cleric of Loki. Fireball was on my 3rd level list (and I got +1 per die of damage with it).
