Problem’s one way to put it. A bloody disaster would probably be waaaay more accurate though, lol.

Well, that would have been one way to ease the pain of first character death…..the GM making up the barbarian wraith character sheet, and setting him loose against his former allies.

Well that would have been one way to ease the pain of a first character death. For the GM to make up the barbarian wraith character sheet for him and set him loose on his former allies.

Phh, clerical resurrection ist totally overrated. Necromantic cloning is way cheaper (though you need to cast gentle repose on the oversized green carcass pretty soon).

Just don’t ‘accidentally’ have him reincarnated instead of resurrected….

Yeah, as both a GM and player i do not enjoy character deaths, even in settings where resurrection is as commonplace as D&D.

But a Boss fight should put the characters as risk.
Not just a little bit, or a bit more than usual, but real risk.
The harder the struggle, the more epic the actions (of both heroes and villains) the sweeter the victory and the memories of it.

I’m gonna have to look into how good a monster that would be. I have a feeling that the loss of rage due to it being a mental status would be ignored. A fighter or rouge would work much better.

First ever character death? I’m not a player, but that’s actually pretty good for somebody who’s been playing quite a while, isn’t it?

Savage Species has rules for playing as an “awakened” wraith or something, where it regains the memories and some abilities of its former life.

Oh, but letting players run with the evil twin/corrupted/undead version of their character is hilarious fun for everybody!

  11. All this could have been avoided (kinda) if Sarah had 2 levels of Mystic Theurge (and was thus able to cast Magic Circle against Evil as well as Fireball). Of course, her turning would be even worse, then, but then she wouldn’t be tempted to use her actions turning Wraiths than something more effective.

Props to Mark for taking this all well! Proud of him. Also dreamed he made a half orc/half ogre fighter last night. Had big old grey dreads and glowing red eyes.

I play a lot of high-lethality games, so I’m no stranger to character death. I have *absolutely* thrown undead versions of people at their former allies. Having a party slowly consume themselves as a necromancer cackles in the background is a fantastic use of a Saturday Night~

I love Dustin’s appropriate levels of optimism, regardless~

Well and if they can’t find a Cleric of high enough level or just one they can afford there is always the Druids …… So is that a Wombat or a Wallaby ?
