Hang on; warlock? I thought this was a Pathfinder game. Paizo could never use the warlock due to copyright (the book introducing the warlock wasn’t released under the license 3.5’s core was). Or is he just renaming and reflavouring the Witch class?

I realise homebrew could be going on here as well, but that’s the boring answer. 😛

Have used this introduction before, actually.

“There is a great chorus of singing from above. The clouds part and a beam of golden sunlight strikes the ground in front of you. Descending from above, to a fanfare of trumpets, is a figure, a sign from the gods themselves that this one is to join you on your journey!”

” . . . the beam of light cuts out about three feet from the ground, sending them face first into a mud puddle, a sign from the gods that they aren’t *that* special, and shouldn’t let it go to their head.”

Technically, there’s a Warlock in Pathfinder. Thing is, it’s an archetype for the Vigilante (a base class meant to be the kind of hero that the Phantom or the Shadow is, or even Batman; has a secret identity which you can switch from, which has its own set of skills and traits), which replaces some stuff with the ability to cast arcane spells. Warlocks don’t have an at-will power like Eldritch Blast, though.

It could be the Witch class, but given how it looks (and the lack of a familiar), it looks more like an Investigator. Then again – it’s probably D&D 5e but in Golarion, so it’s *still* a PF pickup game?

I’m more interested in the rest of the characters. Seems it’s a Barbarian, Druid, tank guy and drow. (Heck – Dragonborn aren’t from PF!)

At that “new best friend” line, my mind immediately flashed to Something Positive, Fluffmodeus.

Best and most self-aware introduction ever. Loved it.

Also. Most people when they see a drow pc:
    – Please don’t be a Drizzt clone or a parody of a Drizzt clone or, if you are a Lolthite, please don’t be a stereotypical one.
Me when I see a drow pc:
    – I wonder if he/she is a Vhaeraunite.

@Shadow88: Warlock is an archetype of the Vigilante class.

Also, whilst you are correct about Complete Arcane not being Open Gaming License, Wizards cannot copyright the word “Warlock”, as it’s an English word that’s been around for centuries.

Shadow88 – Two strips ago, they said it was a D&D hijinks pick-up game. So no Pathfinder issues.

@Robin Bobcat I like your style. Would prefer that intro to most I’ve actually got.

This is a pretty cool looking group. What a bunch of freaks! Also, ElfQuest for the win!

  16. Annonamousethatscurriesinthedarkness Says:

Which one is being played by Abbie? Well my guess is that it would be the Barbarian(?) “Hello New Best Freind”
The purple distracted one is easy – both are distracted by a handheld artifact.
As for the Dragon-borne, that could go either way.
That leaves the Pixie wolfrider ….
Looks like we will have to wait and see what is revealed next time.

If this is Dnd and that is supposed to be a dragonborn, sadly they do not actually have tails. I was very sad when I found out myself, but just wanted to put that out there just in case it wasnt known. I accept all artist creative liberty to add tails to dragonborn >.>
