The original trilogy is sorely lacking in female characters, so you were a young girl who wasn’t into idolizing Princess Leia, your options for representation were pretty much over. I did really love Mara Jade, once I discovered the expanded universe, but it’s good to see a LOT more female faces in The Force Awakens!
